Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has assured that his administration is committed to revamping state-owned media organisations.
The governor made this known while receiving the national executives of the Radio, Television, Theatre, and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Minna, the state capital.
He disclosed that the state government is currently conducting a power audit of some of its media establishments to identify energy-intensive equipment, with a view to transitioning them from the national power grid to a more sustainable mini-grid system.
“We are going to ensure that Radio Niger and Niger State Television are revamped and brought back to life. Power is critical, and we are doing everything possible to transition from the national grid to a mini-grid,” he said.
Governor Bago also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with the media to enhance public awareness and understanding of government programmes and policies.
Speaking to journalists, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hajiya Binta Mamman, reiterated the governor’s resolve to collaborate with the media. She described the planned revamp of state-owned media outlets as timely, noting that it would improve outreach and facilitate effective dissemination of government information.
