Africa’s richest man is setting the record straight, saying that there’s no boardroom battle brewing between Dangote Group and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).

Aliko Dangote, during a goodwill visit to NNPC’s Abuja headquarters, made it clear: it’s not competition, it’s collaboration.

“There is no rivalry between us,” Dangote said at the high-level meeting with NNPC boss Bashir Ojulari. “We’re partners in the same national mission. The NNPC is part of our business, and we are part of the NNPC.”

In a show of corporate solidarity, both leaders pledged to deepen ties to bolster Nigeria’s energy security and economic resilience. Dangote praised Ojulari and his executive team for taking the reins at a critical juncture.

“You have a monumental task ahead,” he said. “But I believe the men and women around you have what it takes to succeed.”

Ojulari echoed the sentiment, underscoring NNPC’s readiness to forge ahead with transparent, mutually beneficial collaborations, especially with the Dangote Refinery, which is set to revolutionise domestic fuel processing.

“This is about prioritising Nigeria’s economic interests,” Ojulari said. “We’re working with a highly skilled team that’s passionate about delivering value to Nigerians.”

The two corporate heavyweights agreed to assign relationship managers within their organisations, ensuring seamless dialogue and operational synergy moving forward.

In a world where energy politics often breeds rivalry, Nigeria’s biggest players are charting a different path, one paved with strategic alignment and shared vision.
