The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has resolved to collaborate with the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) to bolster support for security agencies in the ongoing fight against insecurity across the country.
This resolution was part of a six-point communiqué issued at the end of a joint meeting between the NSGF and the Northern States Council of Traditional Rulers, held at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.
The communiqué, signed by the NSGF Chairman and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, emphasised the need for coordinated efforts to tackle regional security concerns. It noted that special attention would be given to strengthening local security initiatives aimed at addressing the unique challenges facing the region.
The Forum also resolved to take urgent steps toward establishing interstate platforms to enhance border surveillance and coordination across Northern Nigeria.
Reaffirming its support for the creation of state police, the Forum urged the National Assembly to expedite the legislative process required to provide a legal framework for its establishment.
The NSGF commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his sustained commitment to addressing security challenges and infrastructural development in the North. It pledged its continued support for his administration’s efforts.
The next meeting of the Forum has been scheduled for August 30, 2025.
Those in attendance included the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago; Secretary to the Niger State Government, Abubakar Usman; and the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar.
