The World Bank has commended the Government of Jigawa State for its exemplary leadership, transparency, and effective coordination in the implementation of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project.
The commendation was made during a courtesy visit by the ACReSAL Task Team Leader, Dr. Joy Agene, and her delegation to Governor Umar Namadi at the Government House in Dutse.
In her remarks, Dr. Agene praised Governor Namadi’s administration for its unmatched dedication and integrity, describing it as exemplary compared to many other states across the federation.
“Your Excellency, you are one of the most efficient, committed, transparent, and honest governors we have worked with. The people of Jigawa State are indeed fortunate to have you,” she said.
Dr. Agene highlighted Jigawa State’s strong performance, noting that in a recent evaluation of World Bank-supported projects, the state emerged as one of the top performers under the ACReSAL initiative.
“Jigawa State stands out whenever we meet with other states. The multi-sectoral coordination in the state is outstanding and serves as a model for others,” she stated.
“Your drive and commitment to community-level development perfectly align with ACReSAL’s objectives. We have no doubt that the people of Jigawa are well positioned to benefit from the project’s gains.”
She explained that the team’s visit was part of a due diligence mission to assess ongoing projects, identify areas of strength and improvement, and offer recommendations to enhance implementation.
“The purpose of this mission is to review the ongoing works, assess progress, pinpoint areas needing improvement, and provide recommendations to streamline and accelerate implementation,” Dr. Agene added.
“Even before we began this mission, it was clear that Jigawa State had excelled in monitoring and oversight—completing much of the groundwork expected from our end.”
In his response, Governor Namadi welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the recognition given to his administration and the state.
“I would like to acknowledge the significant impact the ACReSAL projects have had on the lives of our people—through water supply, erosion control, environmental restoration, and combatting desert encroachment,” he said.
The governor also commended Dr. Agene’s professionalism and dedication, describing her as a principled and dependable development partner.
“I want to assure you that Jigawa State remains committed to ensuring the sustainability and long-term success of this project,” he emphasized.
The ACReSAL project is a World Bank-funded initiative aimed at addressing climate and environmental challenges in Nigeria’s semi-arid regions. It promotes sustainable land and water management practices while enhancing local livelihoods.
