Football fans in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State were treated to a dramatic showdown last week as two local football clubs, Chelsea and Real Madrid, clashed in the final of the Zaria Suya Sports Sallah Football Competition. The tournament, held at the Aminu Football Pitch, drew hundreds of enthusiastic spectators from the local community.
The electrifying match ended 1-1 in regular time, showcasing both sides' skill, determination, and passion. The deadlock led to a tense penalty shootout, where Chelsea edged out Real Madrid with a 3-2 victory, sealing their place as champions of the competition.
Organised by Hon. Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim Chigari, popularly known as Alolo, Chairman of the Sabon Gari Market Association, the tournament was part of the association’s effort to foster youth engagement, promote unity, and encourage grassroots sports development during the festive Sallah period.
Speaking after the final whistle, Hon. Alolo expressed delight over the success of the competition and commended all the participating teams for their sportsmanship. “This is more than just football; it’s about bringing our youths together, discovering talents, and building peace through sport,” he said.
Fans who gathered for the final were not only thrilled by the performance of the players but also praised the initiative, calling for more of such tournaments to nurture young talents in the area.
With Chelsea lifting the trophy amid cheers and celebration, the Zaria Suya Sports Sallah Football Competition has certainly left a lasting impact on the community and set a benchmark for local sporting events in Sabon Gari.
