As part of this year’s Democracy Day celebrations, the Executive Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government and Chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON), Honorable Sheikh Muhammad Jamilu Abubakar Albani Samaru, has empowered several small-scale business owners across the local government area, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to grassroots economic development.
In a brief but impactful distribution ceremony held on Thursday 12th June 2025 at the council secretariat, Hon. Albani presented essential business tools and financial support to local entrepreneurs engaged in various trades. The initiative, he said, aligns with Governor Uba Sani’s vision of supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to alleviate poverty and promote self-reliance.
Among the beneficiaries was a young man, Sulaiman M. Inuwa, a musician who received a motorcycle to boost his mobility and business prospects. “This will change my life. I can now support my family and expand my work. May Allah reward Honourable Albani and Governor Uba Sani for this great support,” he said.
Another group of beneficiaries were waina (local rice cake) vendors who received bags of rice to help sustain their businesses amid rising food costs. “We can now produce more and increase our income,” one of the women stated. “We truly appreciate this kind gesture.”
Also supported was Malam Ahmad Bala of Unguwar Marmara, a soft drinks vendor who received a deep freezer to improve his cold drinks business. Uzairu Alqadiri, a local tailor, was presented with a sewing machine to expand his fashion enterprise, while Haruna Mai Gawayi, a charcoal trader, received financial support to scale up his business.
While addressing the gathering, Honourable Albani emphasised that the empowerment programme was only the beginning. “Our people are hardworking; they only need a little push to succeed. This is our way of showing that we care—and we are committed to doing more,” he said.
He also commended Governor Uba Sani for his unwavering support to local governments and his focus on grassroots development. “Governor Uba Sani is a leader who listens, who acts, and who puts the people first. We are proud to follow in his footsteps,” he added.
In a show of gratitude, all the beneficiaries lauded the council chairman and the governor, pledging their unfluctuating support. “They have shown us true leadership, and we will stand by them. Come election time, we will vote for them again,” one of the recipients declared.
As Nigeria marks another year of democracy, the initiative led by Hon. Jamilu Abubakar Albani serves as a testament to how responsive local governance, backed by visionary leadership, can transform lives and uplift communities.
