The National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has donated assorted food items and a cash sum of N5 million to victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The donation was presented at the Mokwa Local Government Secretariat by the acting Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Haruna Jimoh-Gabi, who expressed deep sympathy for the affected communities over the loss of lives and destruction of property.
Jimoh-Gabi emphasised the need for proactive planning and preventive measures to avert future occurrences of such natural disasters. He also urged the Niger State Government to engage town planners to promote structured and sustainable development in vulnerable areas.
Items donated by the Commission include bags of rice, spaghetti, garri, mattresses, palm oil, mosquito nets, lifejackets, and other essential commodities.
Receiving the donations on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Mohammed Yakubu-Kolo, lauded N-HYPPADEC for the timely and compassionate intervention.
Yakubu-Kolo assured that the relief materials and funds would be distributed judiciously to the affected victims. He noted that the assistance would significantly help in alleviating the hardship caused by the flood.
