President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of elder statesman, renowned businessman, and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, who died in the early hours of Saturday at the age of 94.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu described Dantata’s death as a “monumental national loss,” praising his immense contributions to Nigeria’s economic growth, public service, and philanthropy.

“With the death of Alhaji Dantata today, we lost a prominent business mogul, patriot, and elder statesman who contributed significantly to the growth and development of our nation,” the President said.

Alhaji Dantata, a key figure in Nigeria’s business history, was widely respected for his entrepreneurial success, his leadership in commerce, and his enduring legacy in philanthropy—especially in the areas of education and healthcare. He also served in the public sector as Commissioner for Planning and Development in the former Kano State.

President Tinubu reflected on his personal relationship with the late business magnate, acknowledging the impact of Dantata’s wisdom and steadfast support over the years.

“Alhaji Dantata will be remembered for his industry, diligence, steadfastness, and great commitment to national unity through his many business ventures and philanthropic activities that touched countless lives of Nigerians,” he said.

The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the Dantata family, the Government, and the people of Kano State, paying tribute to the life and legacy of “one of Nigeria’s most illustrious sons.”

Alhaji Aminu Dantata was the last surviving son of Alhassan Dantata, a towering merchant of colonial West Africa and one of Nigeria’s earliest indigenous business tycoons. His death marks the end of an era for one of the most prominent business dynasties in Nigeria.
