The SESHEB Initiative for Sustainable Development has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women and youth in Bauchi State, calling on citizens to take proactive steps toward transforming their lives in the face of rising socioeconomic challenges that surpass government capacity.

During the inauguration of Local Government Coordinators in Bauchi, the State Coordinator of SESHEB, Hajiya Baheejah Mahmood Abdullahi, emphasised the organisation's mission to uplift and support society’s most vulnerable, particularly women, children, and marginalised groups.

“Our mandate is to provide enlightenment, advocacy, support services, access to interventions, and platforms for skills development and sustainable empowerment,” she said.

Hajiya Baheejah underlined the crucial role of women in politics, asserting that electing competent leaders is vital to national development.

“If good leaders are not elected, there will be no way to improve the lives of the people,” she noted, stressing that women—who often bear the brunt of social and economic hardships—must rise, become self-reliant, and take control of their future.

She explained that SESHEB’s core focus areas include strengthening social protection systems, enhancing community security, promoting economic inclusion, and expanding employment opportunities, particularly for women and youth.

Addressing the newly appointed Local Government Coordinators, she described their appointments as more than ceremonial.

“Your appointment is not merely symbolic—it is a call to action. You are the heartbeat of this initiative in your respective LGAs. You are the voice of hope to the voiceless, the eyes that recognise hidden struggles, and the hands that bring relief to those in need,” she said.

Hajiya Baheejah urged the coordinators to work in unity, uphold compassion, integrity, and accountability, and build strategic partnerships while documenting local challenges and opportunities.

“This event marks a milestone—not just for SESHEB, but for the communities we serve. Today, we officially welcome 20 Local Government Coordinators: selfless individuals who have answered the call to serve as foot soldiers of change and development across Bauchi State.”

She concluded by reiterating the importance of grassroots leadership in driving SESHEB’s mission.

“To our Coordinators—you are the heart of this initiative. Through your dedication, we aim to reach those most in need: women, children, youth, and vulnerable groups—offering them real opportunities for empowerment, protection, and sustainable development,” she said.
