The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a major milestone in its fight against crime, securing 23 convictions for various criminal offences between January and July 2025. This was disclosed in a press release issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John.
According to the statement, the convictions—ranging from two weeks to three years in prison—cover offences such as stealing, assault, burglary, felony, and escape from lawful custody. The Command emphasized that all legal procedures were strictly followed in line with constitutional provisions and global best practices in law enforcement.
Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, the Command has intensified efforts in crime prevention, investigation, and prosecution. These efforts are yielding tangible results, with residents in Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Oron, and Eket reporting a marked decline in burglary, theft, and violent crimes.
Since assuming office in late 2024, CP Azare has implemented a series of reforms aimed at transforming policing in the state. These include enhanced community policing, rapid response mechanisms, professional retraining of officers, and direct supervision of field operations.
The Police Commissioner commended officers of the Command for their professionalism and commitment, assuring that outstanding performances would be duly recognized. He also acknowledged the judiciary and the Ministry of Justice for their continued support in ensuring justice is served.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to consolidating on these gains through intelligence-led policing, increased patrols, and public enlightenment initiatives.
“These 23 convictions are more than just numbers,” the statement read. “They represent real justice delivered and a growing trust between the Police and the communities we serve.”
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command urged the public to continue supporting its efforts by providing credible information and maintaining law-abiding conduct.
