The Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London after a protracted illness.

In a condolence message issued by his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado on Sunday, Governor Bala described the late President as a statesman of rare integrity, discipline, and humility.

He said the news of Buhari’s passing brought immense grief and a profound sense of national loss.

"The news of the former President’s passing has plunged the nation into mourning, as we come to terms with the loss of a towering figure whose life was marked by unwavering service, patriotic devotion, and a resolute commitment to the unity, security, and advancement of our great country, Nigeria," he stated.

Governor Bala noted that President Buhari’s legacy spanned both military and democratic eras, having served as Military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as Nigeria’s democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.

“His legacy is indelible, characterized by a strong anti-corruption stance, infrastructural renewal, agricultural transformation, and bold efforts to reposition Nigeria’s economy for self-sufficiency and growth,” Bala said.

He reflected on his personal and professional relationship with Buhari, describing him as “a patriotic elder statesman, firm in his convictions, calm in demeanor, and unwavering in his commitment to national unity and good governance."

Governor Bala praised the late president’s efforts in stabilising Nigeria and promoting democratic values, especially in challenging times.

He said Buhari’s humble lifestyle, transparency, and personal discipline remain enduring examples for leaders at all levels.

"His stoic demeanor and ability to maintain integrity even at the height of political power are attributes worthy of emulation by current and future generations," he added.

Bala emphasised that Bauchi State holds a unique place in Buhari’s political journey and that his memory would remain evergreen in the hearts of Bauchi people.

He described Buhari’s passing as not only a loss to his immediate family and the people of Katsina State but also a monumental loss to the nation and the African continent.

"As we mourn, we also celebrate the life of an extraordinary Nigerian whose footsteps will continue to guide our nation’s pursuit of justice, equity, and unity. We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, rewards his sacrifices, and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus," Governor Bala prayed.

He extended his condolences to Buhari’s family, the Government and people of Katsina State, the National Council of State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all Nigerians both at home and abroad.
