Troops of Operation Fansar Yamma (OPFY) have been commended for their professionalism and sustained offensive against terrorists and criminal elements in the North-West and parts of the North-Central region of Nigeria.

This commendation came during an assessment visit by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Assessment Team, led by Major General W.B. Idris, to the Headquarters of OPFY in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Monday, July 15, 2025.

In a statement signed and released by Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer of Operation Fansar Yamma, Major General Idris emphasized the significance of regular evaluation of joint operations to ensure alignment with the Armed Forces' strategic objectives and the overall national security goals.

He explained that the visit was aimed at assessing the operational posture of OPFY, reinforcing inter-agency cooperation, and identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of counterterrorism and anti-banditry efforts across the region.

Major General Idris lauded the resilience and dedication of the troops despite operating in challenging terrains and confronting complex security threats daily. He praised the high level of professionalism and synergy among personnel from the military and other security agencies involved in the operation. He further urged the troops to sustain their current tempo and called for continued collaboration among all security stakeholders to maximize operational success.

In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Major General Oluyinka Soyele, expressed gratitude to the DHQ delegation, describing the visit as timely and crucial in strengthening frontline operations. He reiterated his commitment to maintaining operational effectiveness while prioritizing troop welfare and inter-agency synergy.

As part of the visit, the DHQ team toured several forward operational bases, including those in Kwotorkoshi and Tsafe, in Bungudu and Tsafe Local Government Areas of Zamfara State. The team leader commended the frontline troops for their efforts and encouraged them to stay focused on the mission of restoring peace and security in the region.

The visit, according to the statement, served to boost the morale of the troops and reaffirm the military’s determination to end terrorism and banditry in the affected areas.
