The Niger State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has officially presented the state’s bid to host the 24th edition of the National Sports Festival to Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago.

The bid document was presented during the State Executive Council meeting at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Minna, by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Yahaya Ibrahim Gulbin Boka, and the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Nuhu Garba Ngaski.

According to the Commissioner, Niger State’s bid was adjudged the most outstanding among submissions from other states vying to host the biennial multi-sport event. He also presented samples of tracksuits intended for Team Niger athletes, which are awaiting the Governor's approval ahead of the games scheduled to commence on December 28, 2028.

Governor Bago, fondly referred to as the "Farmer Governor," was also presented with a branded local snack, kuli kuli, by the Commissioner for Micro, Small, and Medium Scale Enterprises, Elizabeth Shaba. She explained that the packaged snack was produced by women supported by the state government and emphasized that the product has strong market potential for both domestic consumption and export.

In a series of recognitions during the council session, Governor Bago was decorated as a Vaccine Ambassador by the Rotary Club International and the Forum of Spouses of Nigerian Governors. The decoration was performed by the Commissioner for Primary Health, Dr. Ibrahim Dangana.

The Commissioner for Homeland Security, Abdullahi Garba Muhammad, presented the Governor with the OAN Nigerian Leadership Award as Icon of Societal Transformation, conferred by the Centre for Patriotism and Value Re-orientation, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Similarly, the Governor received an Award of Excellence from the Progressives Governors’ Forum, presented by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Binta Mamman.

In further recognition, the Commissioner for Tertiary Health, Dr. Bello Tukur, presented Governor Bago with the Nursing Advocate Extraordinaire award, which was conferred by the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Niger State Chapter, during its Annual Delegates Conference.

Also speaking at the meeting, Commissioner for Agriculture, Musa Bawa, presented a commemorative plaque from the Agro-Best Reality TV Show to Governor Bago. He briefed the Governor on the forthcoming edition of the show, to be hosted in Niger State. The competition will feature agric-entrepreneurs from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, who will participate in a 60-day televised event aimed at promoting agricultural innovation and enterprise.
