The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Monday, July 21, 2025, called for more stringent penalties against men who abuse their wives, stressing that no true Muslim lays a hand on his spouse. He expressed deep concern over the growing cases of gender-based violence in Kano State, especially domestic abuse and rape.

Sanusi emphasized that Islamic clerics and Imams must play a central role in reshaping societal norms and guiding families to adopt peaceful conflict resolution. According to him, religious leaders should use their platforms to condemn violence and promote compassion in marital relationships.

The Emir made these remarks while receiving representatives of the development Research and Project Center (dRPC) and the Center for Islamic Civilization and Interfaith Dialogue (CICID) of Bayero University at his palace. He commended their efforts in tackling gender-based violence and urged collaborative efforts to safeguard women's dignity in society.
