Veterans of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have called for the introduction of short courses and economic support schemes to better prepare serving personnel for life after retirement.

The call was made during the second edition of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Parley with Veterans, held in Bauchi.

Speaking at the event, Veteran Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Suleiman Loddo proposed the organization of short courses for personnel with 10 years or less remaining in service. He noted that such programs would equip officers with the skills and mindset needed for a smooth transition into civilian life.

Similarly, MWO Mahmud Mohammed advocated for the creation of a credit scheme to support retirees in overcoming post-service economic challenges. He also commended the CAS for initiating the parley, pledging the continued support of veterans in Bauchi and across the country.

In his remarks, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Special Operations Command, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Usman Abdullahi — represented by AVM Abdullahi Bello, Chief of Staff of the Command — encouraged serving officers to begin planning early for their retirement.

“The Nigerian Air Force has done so much for us. It is important for personnel to look ahead and plan for their future,” he said.

He assured attendees that all concerns raised during the event would be relayed to NAF Headquarters for appropriate action.

The CAS Parley, an initiative of Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, is held annually to strengthen the relationship between the Air Force and its veterans, promote their welfare, and ensure continued engagement with the service.

AVM Abdullahi also encouraged veterans to take advantage of NAF medical facilities to access quality and timely healthcare services, reaffirming the Force’s unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of both serving and retired personnel.

The event featured health talks and discussions on economic sustainability, aimed at helping veterans maintain healthy and secure lives in retirement.
