President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, son of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, as chairman of the Bank of Agriculture in a major shake-up of federal agencies.

In a statement on Thursday, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced the appointment of Babangida alongside seven others who will head various key institutions.

Babangida, 53, holds degrees in Business Administration and Public Relations from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland, and completed an executive program in Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School.

Among other notable appointments, Sanusi Musa (SAN) from Kano State has been named Chairman of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Mrs Tomi Somefun from Oyo State will serve as Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), and Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu from Sokoto State was appointed Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA).

The full list of new appointments includes:

Lydia Kalat Musa (Kaduna) — Chairman, Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA)

Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Kano) — Chairman, National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC)

Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa (Kano) — Chairman, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON)

Sanusi Garba Rikiji (Zamfara) — Director-General, Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN)

Dr Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna) — Executive Director, Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC)

The Presidency said the appointments aim to strengthen key sectors of the economy and improve governance across critical agencies.
