A group of lecturers from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, under the platform of WaterAid, has constructed and donated a borehole to the residents of Makera community in Hayin Dogo, Samaru, to ease the community’s struggle in accessing clean water.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Friday, was attended by community members, local leaders, and members of the WaterAid group.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Hashim, who led the project on behalf of the group, explained the motivation behind the initiative.

“This group was formed from the bond of friendship and mutual care among lecturers at ABU, Zaria. When we saw the suffering caused by water scarcity in this community, we decided to pool resources from our personal incomes to provide clean drinking water. That is the primary purpose behind this intervention,” he said.

Dr. Hashim added that the group has continued to operate smoothly, with the commissioning of the Makera borehole being part of its ongoing community outreach efforts.

Also speaking, Dr. Yusuf Ahmed Mu’azu, another member of WaterAid, expressed joy at the successful completion of the project.

“We are very happy today, and by God’s grace, we will continue to support communities like this to earn reward both in this world and the hereafter. We are not politicians; we fund these projects from our personal salaries because we see the hardship people face. We thank God for enabling us to complete this project purely for the sake of Allah,” he stated.

Another speaker urged residents to take good care of the borehole and called on the community to continue praying for the group’s success.

In her remarks, Hajiya Rakiya Shuaibu, a resident of Makera, expressed profound gratitude to the WaterAid group, praying for divine blessings and multiple rewards for their generosity.

The Ward Head of Makera, Hayin Dogo, Malam Garba, also commended the group for their humanitarian effort, pledging to ensure proper maintenance of the borehole.

Several other academics, including Dr. S. Musa Yahaya and Dr. Adam Tijjani, were present at the event. They congratulated the community and promised sustained support, emphasizing the quality materials and significant financial commitment invested in the project.

A youth representative, Malam Hassan, also lauded the gesture, promising that young people in the community would assist in maintaining the facility.

The event ended with prayers by religious and community leaders for the continued success of the lecturers and the prosperity of the community.
