The Bauchi State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has recognised five distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions to community service and humanitarian efforts across the state.

The honours were conferred during a ceremony marking the 2025 World Humanitarian Day, held in Bauchi on Monday.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Hajara Yakubu Wanka, said the awards were aimed at appreciating the selfless dedication of the recipients to the welfare of their communities.

She revealed that two of the honorees were discovered through her widely followed radio enlightenment programme, Zuwa Da Kai Yafi Sako, which highlights grassroots impact and humanitarian efforts.

Hon. Wanka personally nominated the Ward Head of Gwallaga, Alhaji Dan’dada Ahmadu, as the overall recipient of the award, describing him as a shining example of community leadership and development.

In total, the Ministry disbursed N2.65 million in cash prizes to the five recipients as part of activities to commemorate this year’s Humanitarian Day.

The breakdown of the award prizes is as follows:

  • Alhaji Dan’dada AhmaduFirst Place: N1 million and a Plaque of Excellence

  • Mallam Isah Ladan BagaliSecond Place: N700,000

  • Babangida Gwabro Pelun AbbaThird Place: N500,000

  • Idris Muhammad Baba (Sarkin Gaisuwa of Teaching Hospital)Fourth Place: N250,000

  • Abdullahi Bayan NitelFifth Place: N200,000

The Commissioner urged the awardees to remain steadfast in their commitment to humanitarian causes and continue supporting the inclusive development vision of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed's administration.

Also speaking at the event, the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Alhaji Dan’ladi Muhammad, congratulated the honorees and commended their efforts in uplifting the lives of the less privileged.

He encouraged more individuals to emulate the awardees’ dedication and contribute meaningfully to community welfare.

In their remarks, the recipients expressed deep gratitude to the ministry and the state government, noting that the financial support and recognition would go a long way in motivating their continued service, especially in these challenging times.
