A delegation from the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has paid a condolence visit to His Royal Highness, the Agom Adara, following the recent boat mishap at the Gurara Dam that claimed sixteen lives.

The delegation was led by Mr. Abdulhalim A. Yazid, Kaduna State Coordinator of N-HYPPADEC, who conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the Managing Director of the Commission to the traditional ruler and the affected families.

Speaking at the palace of the Agom Adara in Kachia Local Government Area, Mr. Yazid expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and announced the donation of 100 life jackets to riverine communities in the area, aimed at preventing similar occurrences in the future. The jackets, he said, would be distributed through the traditional council.

In his remarks, the Agom Adara expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as the first coordinated visit by N-HYPPADEC alongside two federal agencies—NEMA and NIWA—since the establishment of the Gurara Dam. He noted that the visit marked a significant show of empathy and responsibility by federal institutions.

The monarch, however, raised alarm over the increasing threat of water erosion and the loss of farmlands in Kachia LGA, calling for urgent intervention to safeguard the livelihoods of affected communities.

As part of the visit, Mr. Yazid and his team also inspected three ongoing N-HYPPADEC-funded borehole projects at the Emir’s Palace, Unguwan Gabas III, and Sabon Kachia (Maraban Walijo).

Additionally, the team visited a site earmarked for the construction of a block of classrooms in the Abika Area of Kachia LGA, as part of the Commission’s broader effort to promote access to education in the region.

The visit reflects N-HYPPADEC’s growing commitment to both emergency response and long-term development in Nigeria’s hydroelectric power-producing communities.
