The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Sokoto State governor and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, over alleged involvement in fraudulent cash withdrawals amounting to ₦189 billion.
Sources told TheCable that Tambuwal is currently being interrogated at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja. The allegations reportedly relate to transactions carried out during his tenure as governor.
His detention comes amid accusations from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the anti-graft agency is engaging in selective investigations targeting opposition politicians.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC alleged that the EFCC’s recent summons to senior members of the opposition coalition were politically motivated. The party further claimed that some of the cases being reopened are based on old files without new evidence.
