Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continued collaboration with international donor agencies operating in the state to promote growth and development.
The governor made this known on Friday while receiving a delegation from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
Governor Idris emphasized that partnerships with donor agencies have brought positive impacts, particularly in the health sector.
“Kebbi State has enjoyed a productive relationship with donor agencies. To consolidate on this, we will implement new strategies to further strengthen our collaboration with UNICEF for the benefit of our people,” he stated.
“We have paid counterpart funding in support of nutrition programs. We have also begun renovating our General Hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs), in addition to supplying drugs and medical equipment to meet our development targets,” he added.
In her remarks, UNICEF’s Chief of Nutrition, Mrs. Nemat Hajeebhoy, commended Governor Idris for initiating the state’s nutrition support program, describing Kebbi as the first to implement such an initiative.
“Kebbi State has made remarkable progress in tackling malnutrition, which has further encouraged our ongoing collaboration,” she said.
Also speaking, the UNICEF Chief Field Officer in Sokoto, Mr. Michael Juma, thanked the governor for his support to the health sector and acknowledged the state's efforts in fulfilling its counterpart funding obligations.
“We have recommended Kebbi State for its consistent funding and implementation of nutrition programs. As part of our continued support, we plan to establish Special Care Units in hospitals to ensure that children in the state receive quality care,” Juma noted.
