Niger State Governor, Farmer-Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, has commissioned a newly constructed Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) complex in Kontagora.
The facility was built by the Chairman of Kontagora Local Government Council, Alhaji Shehu Pawa, as part of efforts to boost economic activity in the area.
Commending the initiative, Governor Bago described the complex as a laudable project that reflects the dividends of democracy at the grassroots. He noted that the facility would enhance job creation, support existing businesses, and stimulate socio-economic growth in Kontagora and beyond.
In support of the initiative, the governor announced a donation of ₦50 million to the GSM Association to empower its members. He also disclosed that the member representing Kontagora/Wushishi/Mariga/Mashegu Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Idris Garba, would provide a utility vehicle to the association for logistical support.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chairman of the GSM Association in Kontagora, Sanusi Umar, expressed gratitude to the local government for constructing the much-needed complex. He noted that members of the association had long operated without a befitting structure and that the new facility would significantly improve their operations.
Umar further appealed for the provision of a permanent facility to accommodate members across the entire Niger North Senatorial District, pointing out that the association has nine units across the eight local government areas in the zone, with over 13,000 members.
As part of the ceremony, the GSM Association presented an Award of Excellence to Governor Bago in recognition of his transformational leadership and contributions to the socio-economic development of the state.
Following the commissioning, the Farmer-Governor inspected the Kontagora bypass road, where he directed the immediate repair of damaged streetlights along the route.
