The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) has honoured the President MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, with a prestigious Platinum Medal Award.
The award, the association said, was in recognition of Prof Gwarzo’s outstanding contributions to the advancement of Medical Laboratory Science in Nigeria.
The award was conferred upon Prof. Gwarzo during the AMLSN 209th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, held at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano on Saturday.
The award letter praised Prof. Gwarzo’s bold vision in aligning the African university system with international best practices and his commitment to elevating higher education standards across the continent.
The prestigious honour acknowledges Prof. Gwarzo’s efforts in fostering the growth and development of Medical Laboratory Science profession in Nigeria and successful national approval of the Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS.D) curriculum.
The prestigious honour was also in recognition of Prof. Gwarzo’s visionary leadership in higher education.
In his remarks at the occasion, Prof. Gwarzo expressed his gratitude to the organisation for the honour bestowed upon him.
He also commended AMLSN for their dedication to promoting the medical laboratory science profession, which is crucial for healthcare development and research.
Prof. Gwarzo emphasised the importance of maintaining excellence in education and research as a means to attaining global recognition.
He highlighted the remarkable achievements of MAAUN Niger, noting that its certificates are now regarded as some of the most employable across Sub-Saharan Africa.
He also pointed out that graduates from MAAUN Niger are highly recognised worldwide, with many of them securing employment in Europe, America, and other international organisations.
Prof. Gwarzo stressed the need for embracing innovation as it’s essential for driving progress, adapting to evolving challenges, and remaining competitive in the global landscape.
He urged academia and institutions alike to prioritise innovative approaches, champion new ideas, and foster creativity, as they are the drivers of sustainable development worldwide.
