President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Ghana following a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed sympathy to Ghanaian President John Mahama, describing the incident as a "profound national loss."

“President Tinubu assures President Mahama and all Ghanaians that the thoughts and prayers of the government and people of Nigeria are with them during this time of profound national loss,” the statement read.

The Nigerian leader urged the Ghanaian people and the bereaved families to take solace in the fact that their loved ones died in service to their country.

“He urges the Ghanaian nation and the bereaved families and friends to find comfort in the knowledge that their loved ones died in the line of patriotic service to the country,” Onanuga stated.

President Tinubu also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased and strength for those left behind.

The crash, which has plunged Ghana into mourning, is considered one of the country’s worst aviation tragedies in recent years.
