The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers State following its sweeping victory in Saturday’s Local Government Elections, while dismissing allegations of electoral foul play made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as “incendiary and irresponsible.”

In an official statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC announced it had secured 20 out of the 23 chairmanship seats contested across the state, calling the outcome a “clear expression of confidence” in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“This victory is yet another unmistakable indication of the strong confidence of the people in the APC-led administration,” the party stated. “We commend our Party leaders, members, and supporters for working assiduously to deliver this important win.”

The party also extended appreciation to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and security agencies for what it described as a peaceful, transparent, and hitch-free election process.

With the new local government officials set to take office, the APC urged them to prioritize meaningful development and people-oriented governance at the grassroots level.

Turning its attention to Atiku Abubakar, the APC fired back at the former Vice President, who had earlier alleged irregularities in the conduct of the elections. The party dismissed his claims as a “smokescreen” to mask the poor showing of his party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in the state.

“Atiku’s tirade is no more than a desperate attempt to stoke tension and distract from the ADC’s miserable performance,” the statement read. “We trust Rivers people to reject Atiku’s incitement to strife and instability as the unwise counsel of a forlorn serial presidential contender.”

The APC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to delivering good governance in Rivers State and thanked the electorate for their continued support.

“Together, we will build a stronger, more united Rivers State that works for the good of all,” the statement added.

The local government elections marked a key political test in the oil-rich state, where party alignments have remained fluid following recent political realignments and tensions between state and federal interests.
