Katsina state Governor, Dikko Radda |
Chaos and fear have gripped the Unguwar Allah Nanan community in the Tumburkai area of Dandume Local Government Area, Katsina State, as heavily armed bandits launched a violent attack on residents late Friday evening.
Eyewitnesses report that the assailants stormed the village in large numbers and began shooting sporadically, forcing residents to flee for their lives. The sound of gunfire has reportedly continued for several hours, with no immediate intervention from security agencies as of the time of filing this report.
“We are under heavy attack. They are shooting at anyone they see,” a terrified local resident said via phone before the call disconnected.
The number of casualties remains unclear, but locals fear there may be fatalities given the intensity of the gunfire.
This attack comes amid a renewed wave of insecurity in parts of Katsina State, where rural communities have faced repeated assaults by criminal gangs operating with impunity.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, and efforts to reach local security officials have so far been unsuccessful.
Residents are calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent action to prevent further bloodshed and restore peace in the troubled area.
This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
