Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has officially allocated land to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria for staff housing projects in Sabon Gari and Chikun Local Government Areas, in a move aimed at strengthening the welfare of university personnel and reinforcing the administration's commitment to education.
The governor presented the land allocation papers to the ABU Vice Chancellor and members of the university’s management team during a courtesy visit to the Kashim Ibrahim House, the seat of government in Kaduna.
In a statement shared via his official X handle, Governor Sani noted that the gesture was a reflection of his administration’s determination to support the institution’s national mandate and enhance the morale and productivity of its staff.
“Education remains the cornerstone of our transformation agenda,” the governor said. “We have backed this commitment with action by increasing education’s share of the state budget to 26.14% in 2025, constructing 62 new schools, building and renovating over 1,700 classrooms, slashing tuition fees for state-owned tertiary institutions by 50%, and commissioning three of the largest and best-equipped vocational and skills development institutes in Nigeria.”
The ABU management team, in their remarks, commended the Kaduna State Government’s strides in education, agriculture, transportation, and inclusive governance, describing the administration’s leadership as a model for national progress.
They also reaffirmed the university’s readiness to partner with the state government in delivering the dividends of democracy, lauding ongoing efforts to address insecurity and make Kaduna a safer, more enabling environment for residents and institutions alike.
Governor Sani reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting ABU as a centre of excellence and a national treasure, adding that the government is ready to collaborate further on technical skills training and other transformative educational initiatives.
The land allocation is expected to ease housing challenges for ABU staff and deepen the institution’s collaboration with the state government in the broader quest for human capital development.
