Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, PhD, CON, has commended Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, for sustaining its academic excellence and preserving the legacy of its founding fathers since its establishment in 1962.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Affairs Directorate, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and made available to newsmen on Friday, 26th September, 2025.

According to the statement, Governor Radda made the remarks when he received the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, who led a high-powered delegation on a courtesy visit to the Katsina Government House.

Radda, an alumnus of ABU, described the university as a pride of Northern Nigeria, stating that “the glory of the university is ever there; we are always proud to say we are the products of Ahmadu Bello University.”

He said the institution had remained one of Nigeria’s most respected citadels of learning due to the sincerity of purpose with which it was established, adding that every northerner should feel a sense of ownership and pride in the university.

The governor also acknowledged the role played by the late President Umaru Musa 'Yar’Adua in advancing education in Katsina State, particularly his contributions towards the establishment of ABU’s School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS) in Funtua.

While thanking the ABU management for the visit, Governor Radda pledged to attend the university’s upcoming 45th convocation ceremony, schedule permitting.

The statement added that the visit was also an opportunity for the university to condole with Governor Radda and the people of Katsina over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, and to personally sympathise with the governor over a recent road accident he sustained while on official duty.

Prof Ahmed noted that the news of the governor’s recovery brought “relief and excitement” to the ABU community, who remain proud of his resilience and commitment to service.

The delegation included senior university officials such as Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi (DVC, Advancement, Research and Innovation), Registrar Rabiu Samaila, and Dean of Students Prof Sahalu B. Junaidu. Also present were directors of major academic and research institutes, including IAR, NAERLS, NAPRI, and SBRS Funtua.

The Katsina State government was represented at the meeting by Chief of Staff Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, Principal Private Secretary Alhaji Aliyu Turaji, and several commissioners and special aides.
