Sabon Gari Local Government has supported 24 football clubs with new jerseys and footballs in a bold step to promote grassroots sports and youth development.

The presentation was made by the Vice Chairman, Malam Kamilu Abdulkarim, who represented the Executive Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Jamilu Albany (ALGON). The initiative is in line with Governor Uba Sani’s vision of empowering youths and building peaceful communities through sports.

Speaking at the event, Malam Abdulkarim described football as “a powerful tool for peacebuilding, discipline, and talent discovery.” He said the gesture was more than material support it was an investment in the dreams of young people.

Delivering the chairman’s message, Malam Abdulkarim praised Governor Uba Sani as a leader committed to inclusivity and youth empowerment. “By supporting football and other community programs, we are giving young people a platform to showcase their talents, build friendships, and avoid social vices,” he affirmed on behalf of Hon. Albany.

Excitement filled the air as club captains and coaches received the kits. Musa Ibrahim of Unity Stars FC called the donation “timely and inspiring,” while Coach Auwal Sani of Young Eagles Academy said the gesture would raise the standard of local competitions.

In addition, the CDS team, winners of the recently concluded football cup tournament, was awarded the sum of ₦500,000 by the council leadership. The cash prize drew loud cheers from players and fans alike, serving as further encouragement for excellence in grassroots sports.

Community leaders also applauded the council for prioritizing youth welfare. Elder Haruna Bala remarked: “Football has always united our communities. This is a true investment in our children’s future.”

The event underscored the growing synergy between Kaduna State Government and local councils in driving development. Analysts believe initiatives like this can help discover future football stars while keeping youths engaged positively.

Closing the ceremony, Malam Abdulkarim assured that the council would sustain such efforts on behalf of the chairman: “Our youths are the heartbeat of our society. Supporting them in sports, education, and skills development will continue to be our top priority,” he pledged.

With cheers echoing across the field, the 24 clubs left not just with jerseys, balls, and prize money, but with renewed hope and pride for the future.
