President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has showered praises on Vice President Kashim Shettima as he marked his 59th birthday on Tuesday, describing him as a dependable partner whose contributions have been pivotal to the current administration’s efforts to transform Nigeria.
In a public message released on September 2, 2025, President Tinubu extolled Shettima’s loyalty, competence, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of good governance, economic reform, and national unity.
“Today presents me with another unique opportunity to celebrate you, my brother, partner, and Vice President,” Tinubu began, lauding Shettima's courage and resilience. “Your belief in Nigeria’s greatness has remained unshaken.”
The President highlighted Shettima’s political journey, referencing his tenure as Governor of Borno State and later as a Senator, where he said Shettima proved that “leadership is service, not privilege,” even in the face of “immense challenges.”
Recalling his decision to pick Shettima as his running mate in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections, Tinubu noted that the choice was based on “competence” and “qualities Nigeria could depend on.”
“Every day, you have justified that choice,” Tinubu said. “You have strengthened our work, brought fresh perspectives, and upheld our commitment to Nigerians.”
The President also credited Shettima with playing a central role in the ongoing implementation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda — a national reform programme aimed at revitalizing the economy, improving food security, and expanding access to education, healthcare, and jobs.
“From securing new global partnerships across the Atlantic to driving food security and investment reforms at home, your partnership has been integral to our success,” he stated.
As the administration enters a critical phase in its policy delivery, Tinubu expressed optimism that their collaboration would continue to yield visible results for Nigerians.
He concluded the message with a personal note, describing his relationship with the Vice President as “a bridge across regions and traditions” and hailed Shettima as a symbol of national unity and leadership excellence.
“On this occasion of your 59th birthday, I heartily wish you renewed vitality, wisdom and more years of impact,” Tinubu said.
Kashim Shettima, a former banker and academic, has remained a key figure in Nigerian politics, especially in the fight against insecurity and economic instability in the country’s North-East. His influence within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to grow as he helps steer the administration’s agenda in a complex political landscape.
