*Dignitaries Gather as Bashir Ibrahim-Dabo Receives Historic Traditional Title

By Abdullahi Adamu

In a colourful and historic ceremony, the Emir of Zazzau, His Highness Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, on Saturday turbaned Bashir Ibrahim-Dabo as the first-ever Maga Isan Zazzau, a newly instituted traditional title in the Zazzau Emirate.

The turbaning, held at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria, marked a significant cultural milestone and drew dignitaries from across the country, including the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani.

The event was part of a series of royal engagements that commenced on Friday and spanned various venues in the ancient city of Zaria.

A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Mr Ibrahim-Dabo, 39, is widely recognised as a dynamic figure blending public service with strong traditional roots. Born on September 14, 1985, he hails from the royal Bare-Bari ruling house of Zazzau, tracing lineage to the second Fulani Emir of Zazzau, Malam Yamusa, and the family of Wazirin Sokoto Gidado, a key figure in the Sokoto Caliphate.

An alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Ibrahim-Dabo graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies in 2008. He further obtained a Master’s in International Business and Management from the University of Bedfordshire, UK, and another in International Affairs and Diplomacy from ABU.

He has also received executive education from prestigious global institutions, including Harvard Kennedy School, London Business School, and Aga Khan University, Nairobi—focusing on leadership, strategy, and governance.

Public Sector Service

Before his recent appointment, Mr Ibrahim-Dabo served as Assistant Registrar at the Federal College of Education, Zaria. He later entered public service under former Governor Nasir El-Rufai as Special Assistant on New Media.

Between 2016 and 2022, he worked at the Nigerian Ports Authority as Personal Assistant to the then Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman.

Currently, he serves under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Head of the Central Results Delivery and Coordination Unit in the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination.

He is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Administrators of Nigeria and sits on the Board of Trustees of the Ibrahim Dabo Centre for Entrepreneurship and Community Development.
