The National President of the Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria (GOGAN) and former All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship aspirant, Comrade Aliyu Bello Abubakar, has called on Cameroon’s President, Mr. Paul Biya, to respect the will of the people and concede defeat in the recently concluded presidential election.
Abubakar, in a statement on Tuesday, said that preliminary results from last Sunday’s polls clearly indicated that the opposition candidate, Issa Tchiroma Bakarry, had secured the majority of votes — including in regions previously considered strongholds of the incumbent.
He emphasized that true leadership is demonstrated through respect for democratic principles and the people’s choice, urging Biya to prioritize peace, unity, and the democratic integrity of Cameroon.
“The people of Cameroon have spoken loudly through the ballot box. It is only right that President Paul Biya respects their decision and allows democracy to prevail,” Abubakar stated.
He further called on the international community, the African Union, and ECOWAS to ensure that the electoral process in Cameroon remains transparent and that the outcome reflects the genuine will of the people.
Abubakar reaffirmed GOGAN’s commitment to promoting democracy and good governance across Africa, noting that the peaceful transition of power remains a cornerstone for stability and development on the continent.
