The Acting General Manager of the Kaduna State Environmental Protection Authority (KEPA), Mr. Yahaya Victor, has commended Governor Uba Sani for reintroducing the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the state.

Speaking during the agency’s mock sanitation exercise in Kaduna metropolis, Victor said the initiative would go a long way in promoting a clean, safe, and sustainable environment for human health and the ecosystem.

He explained that the full implementation of the exercise would commence in November 2025, during which there would be a total restriction of movement between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on the last Saturday of every month, with fines imposed on defaulters.

According to him, the reintroduction of the monthly clean-up is part of Governor Uba Sani’s efforts to promote environmental hygiene, public health, and sustainable urban development. He urged citizens to complement government efforts by maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings, including their homes, drainages, and streets.

“We have gone round key areas across the city to sensitize residents on the need to prepare for the monthly sanitation exercise. We started from our corporate headquarters on Kachia Road and took the message to Gonin Gora — the gateway into the city from the South — stopping at Command Junction and NNPC Junction to enlighten motorists and passersby,” Victor said.

He noted that the exercise would hold simultaneously in all 23 local government areas of the state, with KEPA officials and other stakeholders monitoring compliance.

Victor emphasized that the exercise, backed by a directive from the governor through the State Ministry of Environment, would be implemented in collaboration with the media, whose role in mobilizing and enlightening citizens is critical to its success.

He also decried the habit of indiscriminate waste disposal by some residents, particularly into waterways, warning that violators would be sanctioned once the full exercise begins.

“The monthly sanitation is not just a government directive — it is a civic duty that contributes to public health and environmental sustainability. Everyone must play a role,” he added.
