As part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has paid a courtesy visit to the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board.
During the visit, the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse, introduced the newly elected executive members of the Union and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to fostering a stronger working relationship with the Board.
Comrade Dutse explained that the visit aimed to explore areas of partnership in promoting the activities of the Board through professional media engagement and responsible reportage.
He also highlighted some new initiatives introduced by the council, including the establishment of NUJ Online Media, designed to ensure ethical journalism, curb misinformation, and uphold professionalism within the media space.
“This initiative will help restore credibility to the profession and identify quack journalists who undermine its integrity,” he stated.
The NUJ Chairman expressed appreciation to the Board for its continuous support and commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for recognising NUJ members during Hajj operations. He called for sustained cooperation in future exercises.
Responding, the Director General of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Ahmad Umar Labbo, emphasised the importance of media collaboration in enhancing the success of the Board’s operations.
Labbo revealed that Governor Malam Umar Namadi had approved a ₦3.4 billion loan for the purchase of 2026 Hajj slots and related preparations — a move he described as consistent with the Governor’s commitment to improving pilgrimage administration since assuming office.
He congratulated the newly elected NUJ leadership and assured them of the Board’s continued readiness to work in partnership for mutual benefit.
The Director General also commended the caliber of individuals in the new NUJ executive, describing them as “people of integrity, commitment, and professionalism.”
