Tiamin Rice Processing Company, one of Nigeria’s leading rice producers, has announced that it is awaiting final approval from the Federal Government to commence large-scale rice cultivation on the 50,000 hectares of land allocated to it in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State under the NASENI Irrigate Nigeria Project.

The initiative, being implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP), follows the Bauchi State Government’s allocation of 50,000 hectares to Tiamin Rice under the leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.

Speaking during a familiarisation visit by Toro stakeholders to the company’s headquarters in Bauchi yesterday, the Group Managing Director of Tiamin Rice Company Limited, Alhaji Aminu Ahmed, commended Governor Mohammed for his support and foresight in promoting agricultural development in the state.

Represented by Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa, the GMD said, “His Excellency, the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, in his visionary leadership, invited us to Bauchi not only to establish a rice processing plant but also to develop a farm from which we will produce rice for milling at our facility.”

He explained that the Federal Government, recognising the company’s efforts in partnership with the Bauchi State Government, decided to collaborate on the initiative.

“This partnership was launched at our 10,000-hectare rice cultivation site in Udubo, Gamawa LGA, in March this year under the Federal Government’s Irrigate Nigeria Project,” he said.

Receiving the delegation, Alhaji Abubakar Bala Giade, General Manager of Tiamin Rice, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to producing premium-quality rice that meets international standards while promoting community welfare through robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs.

“Tiamin Rice is built on a foundation of quality, innovation, and community service. Our goal is not only to feed the nation with premium rice but also to empower local communities through job creation, infrastructure development, and social investment,” Giade stated.

He emphasised that host communities will directly benefit from the company’s operations, with special attention to education, healthcare, and rural infrastructure.

“As we expand into Toro LGA, we see an opportunity to deepen our impact through sustainable partnerships. We are exploring ways to empower youth and women through agricultural training, entrepreneurship, and skill acquisition to reduce unemployment and boost productivity,” he added.

Speaking earlier on behalf of the Toro community, the Executive Chairman of Toro Local Government Area, Pharmacist Ibrahim Abubakar Dembo, said the visit was aimed at gaining firsthand understanding of the company’s operations and the equipment to be deployed for the project.

He said that as a host community, they expect accompanying social services, including the construction of a school and hospital, as well as the dredging of a dam to provide drinking water for livestock.

Dembo also requested the construction of an access road to facilitate movement and improve social interaction within the community. He assured the company of Toro’s full cooperation and support for the project’s success.

“We are ready to provide all necessary support to ensure the success of this partnership. The people of Toro are peaceful and welcoming, and we guarantee full security and cooperation as you consider setting up a semi-processing facility in our area,” he assured.

The council chairman commended Tiamin Rice for its strong record of quality production and social investment, while also praising Governor Bala Mohammed for his inclusive development agenda that continues to attract investors across multiple sectors.

The meeting was attended by the Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, the District Head of Lame, Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu Lame, security chiefs, religious and community leaders, and other key stakeholders from Toro Local Government Area.
