Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has expressed satisfaction with the voter turnout recorded during the local government council elections held across the state.
Governor Bago stated this shortly after casting his vote at his Tswashagirabba Polling Unit 010, Landzun Ward, in Bida Local Government Area.
He described the turnout, particularly in his ward, as impressive, noting that it reflects the growing public confidence in the electoral system.
“This experience demonstrates the acceptance of democracy in Nigeria. The turnout here is unprecedented; even during the general elections, we didn’t witness this number of voters. It shows that the populace trusts the system,” the governor said.
Bago, fondly referred to as the Farmer-Governor, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for maintaining the policy that empowers sub-national governments to conduct local government elections.
He urged voters to remain peaceful, orderly, and patient as they await the announcement of the results, while wishing all candidates success at the polls.
Also speaking after casting their votes at the Ma’aji Hassan Polling Unit in Bida, the Member representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha Federal Constituency, Hon. Saidu Mohammed Abdullahi, and the Chairman of the New Niger Development Projects, Mustapha Abubakar-Bida, described the exercise as credible and transparent. They noted that the large voter turnout reflects the people’s support for the developmental strides of the Bago administration.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate, Usman Manko Mohammed, also commended the process, expressing optimism that the election would produce a resounding victory for the party.
