Mainstream Energy Solutions, a licensed Nigerian power-generating company, has offered to assist Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, with the renewal of its aging infrastructure and to partner with the institution on its 45th convocation scheduled for January 2026.

The company pledged to support upgrades to ABU’s nearly 30 kilometers of internal roads, many of which date back to the 1960s and are currently in a state of near collapse across the university’s two campuses. In addition, Mainstream Energy Solutions plans to assist in rehabilitating campus toilets and improving water supply systems.

As part of the convocation partnership, the company will renovate the 1,000-seater Abdullahi Mahadi Conference Centre to host the 45th Convocation Lecture. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, commended the firm for its consistent support and longstanding partnership with ABU since 2017.

Professor Ahmed highlighted the company’s timely interventions, particularly during periods of high energy costs, which escalated to N370 million in May 2025. He also lauded the initiative to replicate the Kainji Dam model power plant at the Faculty of Engineering, describing it as a project that will revolutionize practical training and research for students. He noted the recent hands-on excursion where 20 ABU students were flown by the company’s chartered flight to the Kainji facility as a demonstration of its commitment to youth development.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to Mainstream Energy Solutions’ leadership, including Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services Siraj Abdullahi and Non-Executive Director Babangida Inuwa, for their vision and dedication to the partnership. He reaffirmed ABU’s commitment to supporting the company through quality graduates, research collaboration, and innovation-driven initiatives, emphasizing that the collaboration sets a benchmark for industry-academia partnerships in Nigeria.
