President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is deploying all necessary resources to secure the safe rescue of the 25 students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga. This comes as Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State warned that persistent attacks on schools could undermine efforts to promote girl-child education.

In a statement signed by Abdullahi Idris, the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Kebbi State Governor, Tinubu—represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima—vowed to activate effective government machinery to ensure the immediate rescue of the students. The statement added that the Chief of Army Staff and other security agencies have already developed a coordinated strategy for the operation, following the President’s earlier directive.

President Tinubu stressed that the situation goes beyond political differences and called for unity, compassion, and collective resolve in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

Governor Nasir Idris, who has remained visibly distressed since the incident, expressed concern that the continued targeting of female schools threatens progress in girl-child education. Idris, a trained teacher and internationally recognized labour leader, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing logistics support to security agencies. He also appealed to the Federal Government to take every necessary step to ensure the students’ swift rescue.

Before departing for Abuja, the Vice President held a closed-door meeting with Governor Idris, senior federal and state government officials, and traditional leaders from the Zuru Emirate, including the Emir of Zuru, Muhammadu Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, Galadiman Zuru Major-General Muhammadu Magoro (rtd), and the Chief of Fakai, Alhaji Hudu Danmalam, among others.
