The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof. Adamu Ahmed, has expressed deep condolences to the family of Prof. Adamu Baikie, the pioneering educator who recently passed away.

Prof. Ahmed led a management delegation to the late professor’s residence at GRA Zaria on Monday, 22 December 2025, to pay a condolence visit. Presenting a letter of condolence to Mohammed Adamu, the eldest son, the Vice-Chancellor praised Prof. Baikie for his “detribalized outlook” and inclusive approach to leadership.

Prof. Baikie, the first Professor of Education in Northern Nigeria, served as Director of the Institute of Education at ABU and held several high-profile positions nationally and internationally, including Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, the National University of Lesotho, and as the pioneer two-term Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

Describing the late scholar as a “towering figure in education,” Prof. Ahmed said his career was defined by scholarship, service, and exemplary leadership. He noted that Prof. Baikie’s life was a model of unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence, consistently promoting harmony across ethnic and religious lines.

“Prof. Baikie laid a strong foundation for the advancement of education in Northern Nigeria. ABU celebrates a life well lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of students, scholars, and leaders,” the Vice-Chancellor said, praying for eternal rest for the deceased.
