Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mr. Iliya Habila, who died in Bauchi on Tuesday after a protracted illness.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of his family, the Bauchi State Government, and the people of the state, Governor Mohammed extended his heartfelt sympathies to the family, colleagues, and associates of the deceased, describing his death as a painful loss.
The governor described the late Habila as an exemplary journalist whose integrity, courage, and professionalism distinguished him within the media landscape. He noted that as former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel in Bauchi and former Secretary of the NUJ Adamawa State Council, Habila demonstrated unwavering commitment to journalistic ethics and the pursuit of truth.
According to the governor, Habila’s contributions significantly enriched public discourse and strengthened democratic practice in Bauchi State and beyond.
“In public service, Mr. Habila distinguished himself by his humility, competence, and rare leadership qualities. He served diligently as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Bogoro Local Government Area and was later elected Executive Chairman of the local government during my administration. In all these capacities, he worked tirelessly for the development and unity of his people, leaving behind a legacy of service, accountability, and compassion,” the governor said.
Governor Mohammed added that until his passing, Mr. Habila remained a committed and loyal member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he consistently advocated progress, good governance, and peaceful coexistence.
“He will be deeply missed for his wisdom, loyalty, and gentle disposition by his colleagues, the government, and all who had the privilege of working with him,” the governor stated.
At this difficult time, Governor Mohammed prayed that Almighty God grant the soul of the departed eternal rest, comfort his family, and give them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
