North-Eastern University (NEU), Gombe, on Sunday hosted the Founder and President of the Maryam Abacha American University of Niger (MAAUN) Group, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, who also serves as the President of the African Private Universities Association (APUA). The courtesy visit was aimed at strengthening friendship and institutional collaboration between both institutions.

Prof. Gwarzo, accompanied by senior management officials, was received at the NEU Senate Chamber by the University’s Pro-Chancellor and Founder, Dr. Sani Jauro, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yusuph Amuda Yahaya. Dr. Jauro described the visit as “a great honour” and a testament to the growing alliances shaping Nigeria’s higher education sector. He commended Prof. Gwarzo for his outstanding contributions to educational development across Africa.

Shortly after the formal reception, the NEU leadership led the delegation on a comprehensive tour of the University’s state-of-the-art facilities, including modern lecture theatres, laboratories, the digital library, student hostels, the Anas Aremeyaw Anas Multimedia & Innovation Centre, and other academic and administrative units.

Prof. Gwarzo expressed deep admiration for the rapid progress achieved by NEU within just three years of establishment. With an enrolment of over 2,000 students and impressive infrastructural growth, he said the University had distinguished itself as a rising force in Nigeria’s private higher education space.

“I am highly impressed by what I have seen today,” he said. “North-Eastern University has achieved in three years what many institutions struggle to achieve in ten. The facilities, the organisation, the environment, and the overall standards here are exceptionally commendable. I congratulate the founder, the Vice-Chancellor, the management, and staff of this great University.”

He encouraged the institution to sustain its growth trajectory and reaffirmed APUA’s readiness to continue supporting innovative private universities across the continent.

The visit concluded with a group photograph and renewed commitments to deepen collaboration between NEU and the MAAUN Group.

The engagement further cements NEU’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing modern universities—driven by innovation, integrity and excellence.
