With profound gratitude to God for granting the gift of life to witness another Christmas, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has felicitated with the Christian community across the state on the occasion of the festive season.

Governor Zulum is currently on a four-day security and resilience-building tour across Northern Borno. The tour includes visits to military formations to boost morale, as well as communities affected by insurgency, where he is working to restore confidence and deliver tangible democratic benefits.

In a statement released by his Spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum expressed appreciation to God for the return of relative peace in the state.

“For us in Borno State, the period between the 2024 and 2025 Christmas celebrations marks a full year of enviable reconstruction and recovery,” Zulum said.

“The progress is evident not only in physical infrastructure but also in the peace, mutual goodwill, and harmonious coexistence among Muslim and Christian communities—an essential foundation for our state to regain its path to prosperity and its glorious past,” he added.

Governor Zulum further stated: “I am deeply grateful to God for enabling me to preside over the state for a full year, witnessing the restoration and maintenance of peace, mutual goodwill, and harmony between Muslim and Christian communities—bonds that were severely threatened by over a decade of Boko Haram insurgency.”

He highlighted a recent high-level consultation meeting with the leadership of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), aimed at strengthening collaboration between the state government and religious bodies to combat insecurity and promote lasting peace in Borno State.

“At that meeting, I emphasized the critical role of religious leaders in fostering tolerance, unity, and peace across the state. In Borno, as in many other states, families often include members of different faiths living under one roof. We share meals, celebrate milestones, and grieve losses together. Our strength lies in this reality, and we must protect this sacred bond within our homes and communities,” he said.

In line with his commitment to fair and equitable treatment of all communities, Governor Zulum announced several festive season support initiatives this year. These include free transportation for non-indigenes, humanitarian assistance to over 6,000 vulnerable Christians, cash gifts to widows and orphans, sponsorship of Christian pilgrimages, and other welfare interventions.

“I am always ready to render support, and will continue to do so whenever the need arises,” he said.

Governor Zulum urged all citizens, regardless of faith, to unite in the collective pursuit of lasting security, peaceful coexistence, and harmony—essential foundations for true reconstruction, recovery, and prosperity in Borno State.
