A controversy has erupted in Zamfara State over the ongoing membership e-registration exercise of the All Progressives Congress (APC), amid allegations of influence peddling and the disenfranchisement of certain factions within the party.
The dispute centers on the reported exclusion of the state Organizing Secretary, Bashir Ahmad, and Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, a serving member of the National Assembly, from coordinating the exercise.
Addressing a press conference, the Chairman of the Jajiyya Political Movement in Zamfara State said the exclusion of Bashir Ahmad and Hon. Jaji appeared to be a deliberate attempt to marginalize their supporters. According to sources, former Governor Abdulaziz Yari and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, are allegedly behind the move, sparking concerns about fairness and inclusivity in the process.
The controversy has raised fears that the registration exercise may be compromised, potentially threatening party unity ahead of forthcoming political engagements.
The Jajiyya Political Movement, led by Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, has called for an independent and transparent investigation into the matter, demanding immediate corrective action to address any identified irregularities. The group cited a similar incident in 2019, when former Governor Ahmed Sani Yeriman Bakura was reportedly denied party membership registration, highlighting the need for due process and adherence to APC rules.
The APC National Organizing Secretary has been accused of colluding with Yari and Matawalle to exclude the supporters of Bashir Ahmad and Hon. Jaji from the registration exercise. These developments have raised questions about the legitimacy of the ongoing registration and the potential impact on party cohesion in Zamfara State.
The Jajiyya Political Movement has urged APC leadership to respond promptly and restore trust among party members. The group also called on the media and independent observers to monitor the exercise objectively, emphasizing the need for fairness and transparency.
Observers note that the controversy could have far-reaching consequences for the future of the APC in Zamfara, especially with elections approaching. The outcome of the investigation and the party leadership’s response will be crucial in determining whether the party can maintain unity and credibility among its members.
As the situation remains fluid, stakeholders continue to await the party’s official response to the allegations and the outcome of the proposed investigations.
