Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has approved the complete lifting of the restriction on the movement of motorcycles and tricycles within the Minna metropolis between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, who said the move followed a comprehensive review of the prevailing security situation in the state capital.
According to the SSG, the decision was taken based on strong recommendations from the State Security Committee, reflecting significant and sustained improvements in the security landscape of Minna.
He explained that the restriction, which was earlier imposed as a proactive security measure, had effectively achieved its objectives of curbing criminal activities and safeguarding lives and property.
Alhaji Usman commended the dedication and professionalism of security agencies in the state, as well as the cooperation and understanding shown by residents of Minna throughout the period the restriction was in force.
He assured residents that the administration of Governor Bago remains committed to the safety and well-being of the people, stressing that the state government will continue to work closely with security agencies to monitor the situation and sustain the current level of peace and security in the metropolis.
The SSG urged motorcycle and tricycle operators, as well as the general public, to conduct their activities in a lawful, orderly and responsible manner, adding that security agencies have been directed to remain vigilant and enforce existing traffic and safety regulations.
He also expressed the state government’s appreciation to the people of Minna for their patience, support and cooperation, which he said were instrumental to the security gains recorded.
Alhaji Usman reaffirmed the government’s resolve to continue implementing people-oriented policies and robust security initiatives aimed at promoting lasting peace, stability and socio-economic development across Niger State.
