Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the immediate employment of 81 outstanding graduates of Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU) as academic staff, with effect from January 1, 2026.

The announcement was made at the university’s maiden combined convocation ceremony, which attracted high-profile dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Governor Zulum, who is the Visitor to the university, described the decision as a strategic investment in human capital development and the future of education in Borno State.

“I want to inform this gathering that I have approved the recruitment of all 81 best graduating students from the 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 graduating classes as lecturers of this university,” the governor said.
He added that beyond their automatic employment, the beneficiaries would be sponsored to pursue postgraduate studies both within and outside Nigeria to further strengthen the institution’s academic capacity.

The convocation ceremony was also marked by a notable donation from the office of the Vice President, which presented two electric buses to the university.

Among other dignitaries in attendance were the Governors of Yobe and Gombe states, Mai Mala Buni and Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, respectively, as well as a representative of the Kebbi State Governor.

The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi, and renowned philanthropist Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, whose foundation has made significant contributions to educational development in Nigeria, also graced the occasion.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Kashim Ibrahim University, Professor Babagana Gutti, expressed appreciation to the federal and state governments, donors, and stakeholders for their continued support toward the growth and development of the institution.
