The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme has disbursed a total of N12,614,826,460.17 to more than 5,000 retirees between 2024 and January 2026.

The State Head of the Civil Service, Muhammad K. Dagaceri, disclosed this while flagging off the payment of N1.5 billion to 592 retirees at the Pension House in Dutse.

Dagaceri said that in 2024, Governor Umar Namadi approved the release of N5,422,239,826.32, which benefitted 2,033 retirees. In 2025, the state government disbursed N5,681,618,940.89 to 2,211 retirees. He added that the current tranche of N1,510,967,692.96 being paid to 592 retirees reflects the governor’s commitment to improving the welfare of civil servants.

According to him, upon assuming office in May 2023, Governor Namadi constituted a committee to reform the state’s Contributory Pension Scheme, underscoring his dedication to the wellbeing of workers and retirees.

Dagaceri described the Jigawa pension scheme as one of the best in the country and urged civil servants to reciprocate the government’s efforts through dedication and diligence in their official duties.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board, Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu, said the board had commenced the payment of N1,510,967,692.96 as terminal benefits to 592 retirees.

He explained that the payment covers retirement benefits, death benefits, and outstanding death pension balances for retirees from the state government, local government councils, and Local Education Authorities (LEAs).

A breakdown of the payment shows that 188 state government retirees received N562,347,265.65, while 154 local government retirees were paid N318,192,383.00. In addition, 114 retirees from LEAs received N283,856,413.69 as retirement benefits.

Under death benefits, 36 beneficiaries from the state government received N136,988,269.98, 31 beneficiaries from local government councils received N81,951,872.84, while 26 beneficiaries from LEAs received N71,065,605.84.

For death pension balance payments, 20 beneficiaries from the state government received N38,158,808.50, 10 beneficiaries from local government councils received N5,726,384.81, while 13 beneficiaries from LEAs received N12,680,688.65.

Dr. Aminu reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers and retirees to ensure effective service delivery.

“The board is up to date in the payment of entitlements to retirees, including those who died while in active service,” he said.
