Some residents of Akwanga Local Government Area in Nasarawa State have raised alarm over an alleged fraud involving a woman trader, identified as Rufiat Aliyu, who reportedly collected more than ₦3 million from them under the pretext of supplying NAPEP tricycles.

Two of the complainants, Suleiman Adamu and Abubakar Mahmoud, told reporters that Aliyu collected ₦1.9 million and ₦1.7 million respectively, but failed to deliver the promised tricycles or refund the money.

Adamu said Aliyu approached him with a proposal to supply NAPEP tricycles, an offer he accepted before transferring ₦1.9 million to her. Upon discovering that the transaction was fraudulent, he reported the matter to a court in Keffi.

According to him, Aliyu was subsequently arrested and granted bail, after which the case was allegedly transferred from Akwanga to Mararaba. He said there has been no significant progress since then.

Another victim, Abubakar Mahmoud, a resident of Keffi, said he also paid ₦1.7 million to Aliyu but has neither received the tricycle nor recovered his money. He expressed concern over the prolonged delay in the case, alleging that the matter had stalled due to possible collaboration between the suspect and some judicial officials.
The victims are now appealing to the Nasarawa State Governor and the Commissioner of Police to intervene, urging authorities to ensure justice and facilitate the recovery of their funds.

They said the alleged fraud has subjected them to severe financial hardship, noting that the money involved represented years of personal savings and hard-earned income.
The Nasarawa State Police Command has, in recent times, taken action against similar crimes, including the arrest of six suspects linked to a child trafficking syndicate that allegedly sold an eight-year-old boy for ₦3 million.
