The United States has delivered military supplies to Nigeria in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral security cooperation between both countries.

The delivery was confirmed on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which oversees US military operations across the African continent. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), AFRICOM said the supplies were handed over to Nigerian partners in Abuja.

“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” the statement read.

AFRICOM did not disclose the type or quantity of the military equipment delivered, but the post tagged the US Mission in Nigeria, underscoring official diplomatic and military collaboration.

The development comes amid continued security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in counterterrorism and regional stability efforts.

On Christmas night, US forces carried out airstrikes in Sokoto State, targeting Islamic State–linked militants allegedly collaborating with the Lakurawa jihadist group and local armed bandit networks operating in the area.

The airstrikes occurred against the backdrop of diplomatic tensions following allegations of persecution and violence against Christians in Nigeria. US President Donald Trump had previously described the situation as “genocide,” a claim that was firmly rejected by the Nigerian government.

Despite the disagreement, both countries have continued to engage on security matters, with the latest delivery highlighting ongoing military and strategic cooperation.
