Governor Umaru Bago has directed the Chanchaga Local Government Council and the Niger State Ministry of Water Resources to take immediate action to address water scarcity in Minna. The move is aimed at providing both short-term relief and lasting solutions to the water challenges facing residents.
As part of the intervention, the local government will release funds to the ministry to support water distribution through tankers, particularly during the Ramadan fasting period.
In addition, no fewer than 33 solar-powered boreholes will be rehabilitated, while new boreholes will be drilled in critical areas to improve access to potable water.
The Commissioner for Water Resources identified key challenges affecting water supply, including erratic power supply, obsolete infrastructure, and a shortage of water treatment chemicals.
Governor Bago has also directed the prompt payment of electricity bills and ensured the continuous supply of treatment chemicals to enhance water production and distribution.
