Engr. Abubakar Sani Bello, Proprietor and Pro-Chancellor of Mewar
International University, has announced plans to establish Africa’s first
large-scale red
palm oil refinery, capable of supplying countries across the
continent. He made the disclosure while interacting with Daily Struggle
and other journalists in his office.
Speaking passionately about the initiative,
Bello credited Engineer Dr Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso for the vision that inspired
the project. “The shea tree, the palm fruits… I developed a personal passion
for this under Dr Kwankwaso, because he had the dream for this enterprise,”
Bello said. “If you came here, you would see him visit the project two or three
times a week, overseeing workers from morning until evening to ensure our goals
are achieved. He wants us to reach the objective of producing at least fifty
million tons of red palm oil. With God’s help, once we achieve this, not just
Nigeria but the whole of Africa could see us as number one.”
Bello emphasised that the refinery’s benefits
extend far beyond Northern Nigeria. “We have invited international visitors to
see the project firsthand, and all of them have expressed interest in
partnering with us,” he said. “It is remarkable that a university, in
collaboration with His Excellency, can establish such a large-scale palm oil
plantation in Africa.”
Highlighting the socio-economic impact, he
said, “This project will create significant employment opportunities for youths
in the North. Imagine producing fifty million tons of red palm oil; it will
generate countless jobs.”
Bello also explained that the project aligns
with Dr Kwankwaso’s vision for Northern Nigeria’s self-sufficiency and
development. “Just as crude oil from the South fuels the world, we want the
North to produce red palm oil for global markets. Our goal is for everyone to
benefit from this venture. That is our target,” he added.
The proposed refinery is poised to position Northern Nigeria as a major player in the global red palm oil market, while demonstrating that local institutions, in partnership with visionary leaders, can drive large-scale economic initiatives on the continent.
